About us

Our history

MSI Reproductive Choices is built on the views of our founders – Tim Black, Jean Black and Phil Harvey. They believed that by providing high-quality, client-centred care, they could support women to pursue the future of their choice, on their terms.

Their first clinic in central London was opened in 1976 on the site of the Marie Stopes’ Mothers’ Clinic, the UK’s first contraceptive clinic. Today, we have grown into one of the world’s largest providers of contraception and safe abortion services, with over 10,000 team members working in 37 countries across the world.

The prestigious award recognises the passion, professionalism, care and agility of the entire MSI UK team in delivering a telemedicine solution to support many thousands of women seeking early medical abortion throughout the pandemic.

Part of a global family

There are more than 230 million women around the world who want access to contraception but can’t get it. And over 25 million women each year who have to make the agonising decision to resort to unsafe abortion.

Every minute of every day, 48 women resort to an unsafe abortion. Let that sink in.

By the time we go to bed today 69,000 women will have risked their lives with an unsafe procedure and more than 20,000 will have such severe complications they will need to go to hospital: this is our challenge.

We are proud to be part of MSI Reproductive Choices’ global partnership working across 37 countries to make choice a reality for all. From contraception to safe abortions, and life-saving services following unsafe procedures, we are committed to delivering compassionate, high-quality services for all.

Our vision for the next decade is bold: that by 2030, no abortion will be unsafe and every individual who wants access to contraception will have it. We know we have a long road ahead of us. But reproductive choice is foundational in the drive for gender equality and to a future where women and girls take their rightful place in all aspects of society.
